New Research Says It’s Better To Eat A Potato Then Drink A Soda

There has been a lot of studies on soda in recent years with most of them resulting in bad news if you’re a fan of carbonated beverages. But with 69-percent of adults in the United States considered overweight and 40-percent falling into the category of obese, it’s understandable that researchers want to get to the bottom of what’s causing it.


You can’t walk into a grocery store in the U.S. without seeing entire sections reserved for health food nowadays. Manufacturers are now producing low-fat and low-sugar options for everything from ice cream to brownies to pizza. But the one thing that remains unchanged is American’s obsession with soda.


A recent study by 22 researchers published in Obesity Reviews found that Americans consume too many calories. The team of scientists found that some calories are actually more harmful than others. A 12 ounce can of soda and a potato have the same number of calories but the latter provides you with important vitamins and nutrients.


A medium-sized potato has the same amount of sugar than a soda does, but also has large amounts of fiber, B vitamins, and potassium. This means they will both give you “energy” but the potato will give you true energy and not just a sugar high. As a result, you won’t crash the way you do after the sugar high wears off.
