Everyone has good days and bad days. The trick is, to be able to see that the bad ones won’t last forever. Sometimes, this is easier said than done. We all have obstacles and hurdles in life that we need to move past but when you’re at your lowest, you don’t see any possibility of picking yourself up. It may feel like “one thing after another” is bringing you down but the truth is, a lot of it is perception.
A poem is going viral that proves this to be true. It’s been described as “incredible,” “brilliant,” and “powerful,” but you may not think so at first. The author’s name is Abdullah Shoaib and while it’s clear it was published in a book, little is known about its origins. It was posted on Reddit just over two weeks ago and has been gaining steam since. You’ll see why when you’ve finished reading in its entirety…

I’m very ugly
So don’t try to convince me that
I am a very beautiful person
Because at the end of the day
I hate myself in every single way
And I’m not going to lie to myself by saying
There is beauty inside of me that matters

So rest assured I will remind myself
That I am a worthless, terrible person
And nothing you say will make me believe
I still deserve love

Because no matter what
I am not good enough to be loved
And I am in no position to believe that
Beauty does exist within me
Because whenever I look in the mirror I always think
Am I as ugly as people say?
