Although she was just a young girl, Naya Summy was often described by those who knew and loved her as an energetic old soul who was always thinking about and doing things for others. Even when she was diagnosed with a deadly brain cancer at age nine, Naya refused to stop fighting and instead chose to live her life out loud with as much gusto and enthusiasm as possible.
Part of this enthusiasm translated into Naya’s passion for helping others. Whether it was animals, childhood hunger or pediatric cancer, Naya was a force to be reckoned with when it came to giving to those less fortunate.
She vowed to dedicate herself to fundraising for CHOP Parkway Run, amongst many foundations, to help cure childhood cancer. In the course of this young warrior’s short 11 years, she raised over $500,000 for both cancer research and a cure.
As part of Naya’s legacy, the No More Kids With Cancer Foundation is encouraging everyone to participate in the mustard challenge – a fun campaign to help raise money for a childhood cancer cure. Similar to the ice bucket challenge, participants are asked to film themselves eating a spoonful of hot mustard and challenge four friends to do the same.
After posting the video to social media channels and adding the hashtags #MustardChallenge and #NoMoreKidswithCancer, the foundation will share your images on their website.
So what are you waiting for? Help honor the legacy of Naya, fight childhood cancer and challenge your friends to do the same!
