Teenager Shares Heartbreaking Note Her 10-Year-Old Sister Left After Asking Her To Paint Her Shoes

Sometimes we say things to our kids that we may not realize have a bigger impact on them than we anticipate, or even consider at all. It may be something little, like questioning their choice of clothes or hairstyle, but to them it’s enormous; it makes them feel as if we don’t support them.

17-year-old Emely Cifuentes’ Twitter post from earlier this month has gone viral for pointing out just how seriously our children take our criticism. Emely knew her 10-year-old sister wanted to be an artist and asked her to paint a pair of Vans sneakers for her.

Sadly, what should have been a touching moment for the sisters soon became a heartbreaking one.

Marely had begun painting Emely’s shoes but suddenly stopped. She left the Vans on her big sister’s bed with a note explaining why she didn’t finish them.

“I’m sorry if you don’t like them I tried my best. Mom said she didn’t like them and that broke my heart. I don’t need you to break it more,” Marley wrote.

“Now that I see it I agree with her you shouldn’t have let me do that. I’m soo sorry,” she ended the note.

Emely made it very clear she adored her shoes and the Twitterverse did too! Support came pouring in for Marely’s artwork and words of encouragement for the 10-year-old.

“Marely and I are extremely overwhelmed by the reaction to her shoes. It’s amazing to know there is still so many kindhearted people in this world. She’s so happy with all of replies and is in the process of finishing the shoes,” Emely posted on Twitter.

The response Marely and Emely got from complete strangers illustrates how far a little kindness can really go.
