Sasha has only been with the family for a week, but she already shared a bond with Maia. Elena described the two of them as “inseparable.”
“I was heartbroken, I’m still shaking … we are really sad,” Elena said. “Even though it’s a short period of time it’s enough to get attached and feel part of the family.
“She’s [Maia’s] an only child and the only addition to the family would be a pet and we picked the dog, we picked Sasha and Sasha picked us.”

Sasha was in the backyard when the family left the morning of the break-in, but authorities say there is no way the tiny pup got out on her own.
The police constable believes she was taken in the heat of the moment during the robbery. The family and police pleaded with the thieves to please return Sasha.
In a miraculous turn of events, they did.
Elena was walking by the sliding glass door when she saw something moving around in their backyard.

“We think that whoever took her has either has a conscience or got scared and just dropped her over the fence,” Maia’s dad Ryan said. “We don’t care, to be honest, we’re just glad to have her back.”
