Melissa McCarthy is without a doubt one of the funniest ladies that has ever graced the big screen – or small screen, for that matter! Although she is incredibly talented and successful both on and off screen (she’s been married to fellow comedian and filmmaker Ben Falcone since 2005 and the couple has two daughters), there was always a lot of comments about her weight. She’s been in the business for years, and her weight’s still being talked about, but not in the same light!
McCarthy burst onto the scene in 2000, playing Lorelai’s best friend Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls for seven seasons, garnering critical acclaim along the way. Three years later, she became Molly, an overweight teacher who met the life of her life at an overeaters anonymous meeting in Mike & Molly. Clearly unafraid to tackle the topic of weight, McCarthy picked up an Emmy and was nominated for two others in her six-year run as Molly. She picked up another last year as the host of Saturday Night Live, where she also didn’t let her weight stand in her way.
But during the broadcast of the 69th Annual Primetime Emmys in September, fans of the funny lady noticed she was looking a little different than we’re used to seeing her – if you consider 75 pounds “little.”
That’s right, McCarthy stunned the viewing audience at home looking noticeably slimmer, despite wearing a loose and flowing black gown for the event.
She’s been pretty open about the 75-pound drop in weight but a rumor has been circulating the Internet that McCarthy didn’t lose the weight to be healthier or because she was tired of it being brought up in interviews, she allegedly lost the weight for a role in the upcoming movie, Can You Ever Forgive Me?
