Man Being Called ‘Le Spider-Man’ Hailed A Hero After Climbing Four Stories To Save Dangling Child

For the last 96 hours, much of the world’s attention has been directed to Paris, France. On May 26th, the world first saw what Malian immigrant Mamoudou Gassama did before they knew his name. In fact, for the first day people didn’t even know who he was aside from being called, “Le Spider-Man” by new sources. Whatever you call him, he is nothing short of heroic and it turns out there’s much more to his story.

Mamoudou came to France a few months ago. He was trying to start his life over in the City of Lights, a city that Mamoudou gave him the best chance at succeeding in life. Mamoudou is just 22 with his whole life ahead of him. As an aside, there has been a lot of talk about Mamoudou entering France illegally. That makes what he did all the more shocking.

Mamoudou brought attention to himself when he scaled four stories in a Parisian building to save a toddler that was dangling off the side of a balcony. While everyone around the boy seemed to be in a state of panic, Mamoudou just started to climb.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo tweeted her support for Mamoudou and said she spoke with the hero. Her above tweet translated reads: “He explained to me that he had arrived from Mali a few months ago, dreaming of building his life here. I replied that his heroic gesture is an example for all citizens and that the city of Paris will obviously be committed to supporting it in its efforts to establish itself in France.”
