Back in the day, churches used the signs in front of their buildings as a means to let its congregation know the service schedule, when the next potluck dinner was, or what day the next food drive would start.
The denomination hardly mattered; church signs were just a simple way of getting important information out.
Over time, some clever clergymen began getting “punny” with their sign messages.
Instead of just handing out information, church personnel started grabbing the community’s attention with funny messages of inspiration.
Usually, churches used the creative space of their signage to invite people into their building and listen to their message.
But now, churches post encouraging messages for the local sports team or try to bring a smile to the faces of the passers-by.
