Iceland First To Pass Law That Men Can’t Make More Money Than Women For The Same Job

Ladies, if you’re thinking about a change of scenery for 2018 and are starting to list places that give you a new landscape, there is one place you may not have considered.

If you love volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, lava fields, and making the same amount of money as your male counterparts to do the same job, Iceland is the place for you!

As of January 1, 2018, the Nordic island nation has become the first country in the world to make it illegal for men to be paid more than women for the same position.

Under the new law, private and public companies as well as government agencies which employ more than 25 staff members, will be required to obtain “official government recognition for their equal-pay policies.”

Companies and agencies who refuse or fail to comply with the new legislation will face fines. There likely won’t be many handed out, however. Iceland has been ranked by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as the world’s most gender-equal country for the last nine years.
