When it comes to good movies, there’s obviously been quite a few over the last century or so. To name them all would be an act in futility.
Forest Gump could very well make your Top 5 list.
So could Philadelphia, Saving Private Ryan, or Apollo 13.
What do all of those have in common? Tom Hanks stars in all of them.
In fact, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for performances in three of them and took home the Oscar for Philadelphia in 1993 and for his portrayal of Forest Gump in 1994.
He is the second actor in history to win an Academy Award for Best Actor, the first being Spencer Tracy in 1939 and 1939. The feat hasn’t been accomplished since Hanks’ second golden statue.
So, to say Hanks is one of the greatest actors in the last 35 years isn’t a stretch; just about everyone will name him as one of the best. But he recently was voted the greatest actor in entertainment history, period.
