Boy With Down Syndrome Makes History As He’s Named The 2018 Gerber Baby!

From 1927-2010, Ann Turner Cook’s charcoal-sketched face was on every product Gerber sold known as “the Gerber Baby.”

Eight years ago, the company decided to hold an annual contest to have a fresh face represent the brand for every year moving forward.

For the 2018 honors, more than 140,000 entries poured in but there was one in particular that stood out from the rest.

The photo was of 18-month-old Lucas Warren from Dalton, Georgia.

Lucas’ parents, Cortney and Jason, almost didn’t even enter their cherub-faced little boy in the contest, because they weren’t sure how others would receive his big, bright, infectious smile.

However, they eventually submitted his photo and they’re very thankful they did.

“He’s very outgoing and never meets a stranger,” Cortney said. “He loves to play, loves to laugh and loves to make other people laugh.”

Clearly, the Gerber execs felt that too, but there’s something else about Lucas that is garnering attention from around the globe: He has Down syndrome.

Head to the next page for his parents’ reaction!
