Three-year-old Cohen Chastain was in church with his mother when he noticed all of the police officers attending the service.
Cohen asked his mom Mandy why they were there so she told him the truth.
Detective Kristen Hearne was shot and killed in the line of duty after responding to a call about a stolen vehicle.
Hearne became Polk County, Georgia’s first officer killed in the line of duty and Cohen and Mandy’s church was having a local service for her.
Immediately, Cohen was affected by the news and had an idea.
“He was really heartbroken when I explained what had happened and he wanted to wear a police uniform and stand for the procession,” Mandy explained.
When it was time for Detective Hearne’s funeral procession, Cohen held to his word.
The little boy dressed in a police officer costume and stood at attention for the two-hour ceremony, saluting every officer that passed him.
