A gifted artist has the ability to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary. Irish artist Jan Campbell was eating an avocado one day when inspiration struck. As she gazed at the pit of the avocado she just sliced, it occurred to her that there was a beautiful treasure hidden inside just waiting to be discovered.
From that day on, Jan began carving avocado pits (what she refers to as stones) into some of the most intricately designed figures around. Her love of all things magical and mythical turned her passion for carving into a full-blown business and now the artist is busy selling her creations to her happy customers.
But how does she amass so many avocado stones? People wondered if she was eating avocados by the bushels, so Jan shared a few of her trade secrets on her website avocadostonefaces.com:
“I eat my avocados with great appreciation! I don’t think I eat many more than most avocado enthusiasts, perhaps 3 to 4 a week. Avocado-eating family members, friends and neighbours are very generous in collecting their avocado stones for me. I often come home to find a stash of stones waiting for me on my doorstep!”
