Over the last few years, there has been a trend in the fashion industry. Sure, the industry itself is all about setting trends but they canvases they are now using is starkly different than it was just a decade ago.
Models like Ashley Graham and Winnie Harlow play a huge part in the paradigm shift in fashion, thanks to bulldozing their way onto designers’ runways and magazine photo shoots with their demand that all types of beauty be represented.
Of course, the modeling agencies, ad agencies, magazines, and design houses play a part in this as well. If they weren’t willing to change the longstanding “rule” that all models are 5’10, blonde, and a size 0 we wouldn’t be where we are now.
And where that is a place where we see people of all colors, shapes, sizes, and disabilities being represented on the pages of magazines and on runways across the globe.
Unfortunately, not every designer or ad agency has taken this approach but hopefully, those that have resisted will soon follow suit.
However, one of the major fashion designers that has chosen to take on the idea that there are different types of beauty is Tommy Hilfiger.
